OPPORTUNITY: UNESCO, together with the ReachingU Foundation and the Varkey Foundation, supports the prize for teaching in Uruguay

This June 17, the Education Programme of the UNESCO Office Montevideo has joined the ReachingU Foundation in the presentation of the Uruguayan Teacher Prize 2019. The chosen teacher will receive US$ 5,000, which must be allocated to give continuity to the project for which he/she has applied. It will be the first time that a local version of the Global Teacher Prize of the Varkey Foundation takes place in Uruguay. For REachingU, the award celebrates and will recognize the work of those who are leading the educational change in the country.

Zelmira May, National Programme Specialist for Education of the UNESCO Montevideo Office, will be part of the jury along with outstanding national actors, including Mrs. Rosita Angelo, Director of Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture; Mrs. Adriana Aristimuño, from the Department of Education of the Catholic University of Uruguay; Mr. Marcelo Pérez Alfaro, Leading Specialist in Education of the Inter-American Development Bank. For May, "The prize gives the possibility of visualizing and recognizing the key role of the teacher in the achievement of a quality education, determining the success of any educational strategy."

and completing the application forms between July 22 and July 26, 2019.

No application will be accepted or be considered after the deadline. After this period, a second phase of the application will open for those who have fulfilled the requirements of the first one. Candidates who continue to the next round will have to fill additional forms and attach new documents between August 2 and 8.

Who can apply?

All education professionals who have completed their teaching career and present their valid title for Uruguay.

All the teachers who are in the exercise of their profession at present, with a minimum of five years of experience and who have not discredited the teaching work in any way.

Teachers who practice their profession in any educational centre in Uruguay (public or private but with the authorization and / or authorization of the National Administration of Public Education (ANEP), the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC), National Institute for Children and Adolescents (INAU) and whose students are between 4 and 18 years old.

What kind of initiatives can apply?

You can propose initiatives that present up-to-date pedagogical concepts and significant or innovative didactic strategies that positively favour the quality of teaching and learning processes in any area of education within an educational community.

The initiatives proposed must be one per teacher and be original ideas of the applicant, not extracted, in their concept or in the structure, from some other person or national or international organization. By the mere fact of submission of the experience, the teacher implicitly declares to be the author of it.

The submitted initiative must be justified through the presentation of the project, which shall explain the relation to the context in which it is being developed.

The initiative presented must have more than one year running and be active at the time of application.
