UNESCO and PROMIGAS Foundation Agreement to disseminate "Seven complex lessons in education for the future"

Edgar Morin recording his MOOC participation

The UNESCO Regional Office of Science for Latin America and the Caribbean and the Promigas Foundation of Colombia are pleased to announce the signing of an International Cooperation Agreement that focuses on social inclusion, education and sustainable development in the region.

In effect, both organizations have committed themselves to work together on actions that promote new ways of understanding and acting in the reality of our communities, within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Within this framework, a MOOC (Massive Online Open Course) will be launched in the near future, based on the work of the renowned French thinker Edgar Morin “Seven complex lessons in education for the future” will be offered universally, written by the author at the request of UNESCO, and published by this organization in 1999. The "Seven complex lessons" tell us about some strategic keys to conceive and act in the contemporary world, describing the principles that we must keep in mind when designing or reforming systems and educational practices, such as: the human condition, the blindness of knowledge, pertinent knowledge, Earth identity, uncertainties, ethics for the human genre and understanding.

This project seeks to promote the widest dissemination of complex thinking in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as to encourage subjective and social transformations based on intercultural dialogue, collective intelligence, mutual understanding and global citizenship.

With an Academic Committee composed of representatives of both institutions, the Course will be oriented to the Latin American and Caribbean region, under the academic responsibility of UNESCO Montevideo Office and the special participation of the thinker Edgar Morin.

This training opportunity can be used freely and free of charge through the MiriadaX digital educational platform by Telefónica Educación Digital, especially oriented to Ibero American countries.

Lida Brito, Regional Director of Science for Latin America and the Caribbean of UNESCO, appreciated this opportunity, considering the community of visions between the Promigas Foundation and UNESCO, working towards social inclusion, education and sustainable development, and promoting the cooperation and social management as a strategy fostering the best transformations in the region.

For her part, Natalia Abello Vives, President of the Board of Directors of the Promigas Foundation, said that this relationship responds to the purpose of adding the valuable capabilities that the Foundation has in educational issues, seeking to reach new international audiences with organizations such as UNESCO, so that together we look for common good. "We are convinced that mobilizing knowledge contributes to social inclusion and a more critical and thinking society that favors global and local agendas."

This International Cooperation Agreement between UNESCO and the Promigas Foundation is signed within the framework of the 70th anniversary celebrations of the UNESCO Montevideo Office, the 20 years of the launch of “Seven complex lessons…” and the 20 years of the Promigas Foundation.
