2019 - The International Year of the Periodic Table

A common language for science

The periodic table of chemical elements is one of the most important achievements in science, since it captures the essence not only of chemistry, but also of physics, medicine, earth sciences and biology.

1869 is considered the year of the discovery of the Periodic System, and Dmitri Mendeleev was its great creator. 2019 will be the 150th anniversary of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements and, therefore, has been proclaimed the "International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT2019)" by the General Assembly of the United Nations and UNESCO.

The Science, Technology and Innovation Policy Programme of the UNESCO Regional Office for Science in Latin America and the Caribbean invites you to learn about and participate in the celebrations that will be taking place throughout the world during 2019.
