Social and Human Sciences

The Social and Human Sciences Sector (SHS) of the UNESCO Montevideo Regional Office aims to support social change, to contribute to the development of inclusive societies in Latin America and the Caribbean, to encourage intercultural dialogue and to reinforce and promote bioethics as well as ethical values and principles related to science and the implementation of emerging technologies, through focusing on/from a perspective centered on human rights and gender equality.

The sector plays a leading role in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals within the region, especially in the search for social inclusion, eradicating extreme poverty, reducing inequalities and consolidating societies focused social justice and peace, raising awareness about ethical principles and the full implementation of rights and fundamental freedoms. .
