UNESCO World Audiovisual Day 2009

UNESCO and the Bophana Audiovisual Resources Center will unite this year again in order to celebrate the UNESCO World Day for Audiovisual Heritage. This year’s celebration will focus on the l topic of “Cambodian Sound and Music Heritage. As the general theme suggested by UNESCO for the 2009 day is ephemeral heritage, a conference by Jean-Michel Filippi will show the fragility of heritage through the example of the Cambodian indigenous group S’aoch, who have lost its musical heritage.

Additionally, musicians from the Tompoun indigenous minority and the Cham (isalm) community will perform during the day and demonstrate their sound and music heritage to the Cambodian and international audience. Traditional Cambodian music will be highlighted through a conference on instruments and a concert, and Cambodian contemporary music will also be presented thanks to a program showing archival films.
