Strengthening Internal and External Quality Assurance (IQA and EQA) in Higher Education in Cambodia
The Accreditation Committee of Cambodia (ACC) with support from UNESCO is organizing training workshop for officials responsible for internal quality assurance (IQA) in 15 public and private higher education institutions (HEIs) and the External Assessors of ACC on the ACC Minimum Standards for Institutional Accreditation from 4 - 7 November in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
The training workshop was opened by His Excellency IN Viracheat, Secretary of State of the Council of Ministers in charge of Education and Quality Assurance. HE Viracheat appreciated UNESCO's support and affirmed the Royal Government's commitment to continue its efforts in higher education reforms, coordination between different institutions to improve the quality of higher education. He encouraged the External Assessors to be the facilitators and coaches to the HEIs to implement quality measures. Mr. Santosh Khatri, Education Programme Specialist of UNESCO Phnom Penh recognized the rapid expansion of higher education institutions in Cambodia and challenges with the need for "culture of internal quality" for overall improvement of quality in higher education to address the development aspirations of Cambodia within the context of ASEAN Economic Integration. Dr. Wang Libing, APEID Coordinator UNESCO Bangkok highlighted the importance quality assurance in higher education and shared international best practices that Cambodia could consider in the ongoing reforms.
Following the training workshop, the representatives from the 15 HEIs are expected to develop their institutional Self Assessment Reports and submit to ACC in the coming year.
