Conservation and Showcasing of Srah Srang Royal Basin

@UNESCO/Chanthul Suos - ICC-Angkor Ad Hoc Experts visit Srah Srang, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia

With the financial contribution from Jet Tours ($77,820 USD) – a tour operator – the project finished its Phase I in 2010 accomplishing the following activities:

  1. The archaeological excava­tion at the pier and the esplanade area;
  2. The rehabilitation of the hydro­logical structure;
  3. A complete study on the transversal section structure of the road “Beng” which is also called the ancient road from Angkor to Beng Mealea temple;
  4. Development of a tour way.

Infrastructure has been developed to ensure a conve­nient and interesting visit for the tourists. The second phase of the project which began in November 2010 aims to restore the pile-plank in the submerged section of the pier. The restoration work started with the archaeological excavation of the flooded area around the pier. The APSARA National Authority will provide its financial and technical support to complete the restoration work.
