National Workshop on Education for Sustainable Development and World Heritage Education (WHE) in Young’s Hands

UNESCO Office in Phnom Penh and the National Institute of Education (NIE) organized a week-long national workshop on Education for Sustainable Development and World Heritage Education (WHE) in Young’s Hands in April 2011. It is an important part of the pre-service teacher training program of NIE, and UNESCO supports and takes part in this activity every year. Almost a thousand teacher trainees from NIE had actively participated in this workshop, most of whom are the future upper secondary teachers of various subjects..

The workshop successfully mobilized field experts from the government ministries including Education, Youth and Sports, Culture and Fine Arts, Tourism, National Research Institutes, Universities, National Authorities on World Heritage (APASARA Authorities), the Cambodian National Commission for UNESCO to support the initiative, share their valuable efforts, the insightful concepts, strategic visions and challenges, and to improve the teaching approaches and methodologies on ESD and WHE.

The event received the strong support from the leadership of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, National Commission for UNESCO and APSARA Authority. NIE plans to organize an on-site visit for all the teacher trainee in Siem Reap (Angkor Park), in closed cooperation with APSARA Authority.
