Within the framework of Education for All and the Post-2015 challenges, technical and vocational education and training (TVET) is an essential instrument to eradicate poverty. Countries have the great challenge of preparing young people to face the rapid technological, economic and labour changes in their societies.

UNESCO’s role is to help the Member States take on this challenge. The Organisation recommends standards that consider all aspects of the educational process which, in addition to providing general education, promote the study of technology and related sciences and the acquisition of basic, transferrable and technical-vocational competencies in order to support young people’s insertion into the workplace and society.

The Regional Bureau for Education works with the countries of the region to help them review and improve their curricular policies and proposals in accordance with the principles of sustainable development, promoting transversal topics such as education for small businesses. OREALC/UNESCO Santiago offers its support through activities designed to guide policies, skill training, the promotion and strengthening of a regional dialogue, research and the production of knowledge.
