Director of Publication: Paul de Guchteneire, UNESCO

Paul de Guchteneire is Chief of International Migration and Urbanization at UNESCO and Director of Publication of the Diversities journal, founded in 1998 under its former title, International Journal on Multicultural Societies. His background is in sociology and epidemiology and before coming to UNESCO he worked as Director of the Steinmetz Institute of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences.  He is a former President of the International Federation of Data Organizations (IFDO) and published several works on data collection and data analysis in the social sciences and on the application of indigenous knowledge for development. His current programme focuses on the human rights dimension of international migration, and the development of policies for migration management at the international level. His recent publications include Democracy and Human Rights in Multicultural Societies (UNESCO/Ashgate, 2007), Migration Without Borders (UNESCO/Berghahn, 2007), Migration and Human Rights (UNESCO/Cambridge University Press, 2009), Climate change and Migration (UNESCO/Cambridge University Press, 2011) and From Brain drain to Brain Gain (UNESCO, forthcoming 2012).

Editor: Gabriele Alex, Max Planck Institute (Göttingen)

Gabriele Alex is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, currently working on medical diversity in Tamil Nadu, South India, at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity. She obtained her MA in Medical Anthropology and her Ph.D. in Social Anthropology from Brunel University, West London. Dr. Alex’s research interests include medical anthropology, ethnicity, healing and identity, and youth and childhood. She is co-editor of the online publication Health and Society in South Asia, and holds a fellowship at the Institut Francais de Pondichery, Tamil Nadu, India.

Co-Editor: Amber French

Amber French is a Consultant in International Migration and Urbanization at UNESCO. Originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, she completed her BA (double degree) in Political Science and French at Tulane University in 2008. She holds an MA in International Relations from the American Graduate School of Paris. Her research interests include gender and transnational migration, South-North migration, and Africa.
