Extraordinary Session of the Intergovernmental Bioethics Committee (IGBC)
An extraordinary session was convened by the Director-General at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 29 June 2010 to give effect to the wish expressed by the IGBC to examine and revise, if necessary, Rule 3 of the Rules of Procedure of the Committee.
The session was chaired by Prof. (Mr) Abdulaziz Al-Swailem, Chairperson of the IGBC, and the following Member States of the IGBC were represented: Austria, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Côte d'Ivoire, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Iran (Islamic Republic of), Japan, Kenya, Lebanon, Madagascar, Nigeria, Philippines, Portugal, Oman, Republic of Korea, Romania, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Switzerland, Syrian Arab Republic, Togo, United States of America and Venezuela.
Representatives of other Member States and observers from intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations were also present. The UNESCO Legal Adviser attended the session to provide legal assistance to the Committee during its deliberations.
