Fourth Ordinary Session of COMEST, Bangkok, Thailand, 23-25 March 2005
Upon the invitation of the Thai Government the fourth Ordinary Session of the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology (COMEST) took place in Bangkok from 23 to 25 March 2005, offering an opportunity to give continuity to the new regional policy in Asia and the Pacific region. Following the strategy adopted since the Third Ordinary Session, in 2003 in Brazil, this regional approach has allowed UNESCO to take into account the expectations and needs of the Member States and to set up, at the regional and international level, various platforms of debate, action and international cooperation.
During the Fourth Ordinary Session of COMEST, a Youth Forum was held as in previous Commission’ meetings, in order to bring a fresh point of view both to the debate on ethics of science and technology and to the Commission members, demonstrating the importance of involving young people and building long-term awareness in ethics of science.
