India – Project Mala Charitable Trust, UK
An action programme for the elimination of child labour in India
The NGO Project Mala has 10 schools and provides education for children in Uttar Pradesh from primary to secondary grade ten level. The children also get instruction in hygiene, healthcare, sports, computer sciences and cultural activities.
Mala children are provided with a hot cooked midday meal, a new school uniform each year, monitoring of health, eye test and glasses if required. All are free of charge.
The project is financed primarily through individual child sponsorship but some money comes from institutional donations. UNESCO has supported Project Mala from 2005 to 2009.
