Just Published: English/Spanish version of “Human Rights. Major International Instruments”

By presenting data on States’ ratifications to universal and regional human rights instruments, the publication “Human Rights. Major International Instruments. Status as at 31 May 2010” intends to assist governments and civil society to promote the full enjoyment of all human rights for all. Published annually, it reveals trends and developments in the acceptance of human rights standards worldwide. Already available in English/French, an English/Spanish version has just been published.

2010 marks the anniversary of the adoption of several important universal and regional treaties, including the 50th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention against Discrimination in Education. In addition, some important developments have taken place since the previous edition particularly at the regional level. For instance, in October 2009, the African Union adopted the Convention on the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Africa (Kampala Convention), the first international human rights instrument that specifically addresses the rights of internally displaced persons.

UNESCO wishes to express its gratitude to partner Organizations and to all those who assisted in the preparation of this resource. We would appreciate being informed of any errors or omissions that may have occurred inadvertently, despite all our efforts to present the most accurate information possible.
