Tafeeda Jarbawi
Tafeeda Jarbawi is a Palestinian Chemist. Since December 1994 she has been serving UNRWA / West Bank Field as the Dean of the Educational Science Faculty and Ramallah Women’s Training College. Her responsibilities include the technical and administrative supervision and development of Teacher Education as well as the Technical & Vocational programs which are offered to young Palestinian women refugees. Recently, she has been appointed as member in UNRWA reform committees.
Ms Jarbawi has served the community as board member of several scientific and educational committees (GOs, NGOs and Private sector) at executive, advisory, and policy making level. Of relevance is the committee that drafted the Palestinian national Green paper on Science, Technology and Innovations (Higher Council of Vocational and Technical Education, Accreditation and Quality assurance Commission, and Quality improvement Fund). Her awareness of the political, health, socioeconomic and environmental conditions stems from her membership, since 1996, of the Development Studies Center which is responsible for publishing the yearly national document of relevance. She has also published several papers in chemistry, education and women’s affairs. She has organized numerous conferences.
In 1981, she graduated from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio/USA with a PhD in Analytical Chemistry. From 1981-1994, she was a faculty member and a chair person of the Department of Chemistry at BirZeit University/West Bank. During that period she also served as a visiting research professor in the USA and Germany.
