To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Permanent Delegation of the Czech Republic to UNESCO is organizing a series of events at UNESCO Headquarters. Events focus on the promotion of human rights through documentary films and education, and the right to freedom of opinion and expression, including the right to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media regardless of frontiers.
- 25 September 2008: The Czech Permanent Delegation to UNESCO organized, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, a presentation of the International Documentary Film Festival One World, a Round Table on "Reflecting Human Rights in Documentary Films" and the Parisian premiere of the documentary film Citizen Havel about the former President of the Czech Republic.
- 2 December 2008: The Permanent Delegations of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia will organize jointly the Colloquium "Spring 1968 : Prague – Warsaw, Different Perspectives : Czechoslovakia – Poland". Its objective will be to recall the significance of the movements of students and intellectuals in Czechoslovakia and Poland in spring 1968, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
- 10 December 2008: On the Czech territory, the Czech Republic celebrates the 60th anniversary by organizing a literary competition for students of high schools (15-19 years old) on the topic of "The Universal Declaration of Human Rights: 60 years after: the most important document of the 20th century?". The competition is organised by the Ministry of Education, and the laureates will be presented their awards by the Minister of Education on 10 December 2008.
