Republic of Korea

Throughout 2008, a number of events will be organized by the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, or under its auspices, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

  • Photo Exhibition and Screening of the Documentary Film on Poverty. A photo exhibition will be held in the Republic of Korea, and in several other countries, including at least one developed and one developing country. Photos on the theme of poverty, taken by internationally renowned photographers, will be shown in public spaces. A unique documentary will be produced on worldwide efforts to eradicate poverty. It will be aired through Korea’s major television channels, followed by worldwide distribution through Korean embassies. These events are organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Korea, and supported by the Korean National Commission for UNICEF (KNCU) and the United Nations Developement Programme (UNDP) Office in Korea.

  • 29-30 July 2008: the "International Forum on Asian Culture and Bioethics" was held in Seoul (Republic of Korea), and co-organized by the KNCU, the UNESCO Bangkok Office and the Bioethics Policy Research Center/Ewha Women's University in Korea. Some scholars from Morocco presented an Arab perspective on the issue, which was a good opportunity to broaden views and to deepen the discussion.

  • 10-12 November 2008: International Conference on Human Rights and Multicultural Society. An international conference on the protection and preservation of human rights in multicultural society will be organized by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea in Seoul (Republic of Korea).
