“Gender Equality as a Millennium Value” in Central and Eastern Europe
A Regional Forum on “Gender Equality as a Millennium Value” will be organized from 5 to 7 December 2012 in Moscow (Russian Federation). The goal of the project is to set up a platform for research-policy dialogues on gender equality in the context of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the post-2015 framework, as well as on wider regional gender equality related issues.
The agenda of the Forum, organized in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair on Culture of Peace and Democracy at the Russian State University for the Humanities and Council for Consolidation of Women’s Movement in Russia, will include an experts’ roundtable with the participation of about 15 national and international specialists in gender equality from the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. This roundtable will take place from 5 to 6 December 2012 in the Cultural and Educational Centre “Etnomir”, Kaluga region (90 km from Moscow).
The experts’ roundtable will focus on such issues as gender equality, women's empowerment, respect of human rights for women and girls, their full participation in the political, economic and social life of the region, including women with disabilities, indigenous women and women migrants, etc.. The roundtable’s agenda will also include a brainstorming on a post-2015 scenario, that could be appropriate for the region.
Based on the roundtable discussion, participants will determine a thematic focus and Chairs for the thematic workshops to take place at the Conference after the roundtable.
On 7 December 2012 indeed, a Regional Conference gathering no less than 50 participants (national and international specialists in gender equality, representatives of international organizations, the academic community, governmental institutions, intergovernmental organizations, etc.) will take place in Moscow in the premises of the Russian State University for the Humanities.
In accordance with the Forum's outcomes, a Resolution will be elaborated.
