Global Campaign for the ratification of the Convention of Migrant Rights
The Section on International Migration and Multicultural Policies identified the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of all Migrant Workers and Members of their Families (1990) as central to the ongoing mission of UNESCO.
The rights that are guaranteed in the 1990 UN Convention are an important step in the recognition of universal rights. Multicultural societies should become - or remain - places of equal rights, dignity, justice and social security for everyone. Closing borders will neither stop the need nor the motivation to leave a country.
Currently, the issue of migration is in the centre of international attention. Several UN Agencies and other international organizations try to promote the development and application of international standards which contribute to more respect for migrants' rights, such as the above mentioned UN Convention. The Steering Committee of the Global Campaign for Ratification of the Convention on Rights of Migrants is composed by the following international organizations:
- December 18
- Human Rights Watch
- Inter American Institute for Human Rights
- International Catholic Migration Commission
- International Commission of Jurists
- International Confederation of Free Trade Unions

- International Organization for Migration
