The Director-General Meets the Minister of Education of Mexico
On 15 March, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, held a private meeting with Mr Emilio Chuayffet Chenor, Minister of Education, and a working meeting in which all Vice-Ministers as well as Mr Rafael Tovar y de Teresa, President of the Council for Culture and Arts, took part. During this meeting, the Mexican authorities presented the main challenges of the Educational Reform.
The Director-General acknowledged the determination of the authorities in ensuring access to quality education for all and reiterated the Organization's willingness to support the reform efforts in this area.
The Director-General also gave a lecture entitled “Priority Education: quality education for all as an engine for economic and social development” at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by press conference and a dialogue with the press and the participants.
At a meeting hosted by the National Committee of the Management of Social Transformations Programme (MOST) and the National Commission for Bioethics, the Director-General had a fruitful exchange with the members of the Committee about various activities taking place in the framework of the MOST Programme and prospects for future cooperation. The meeting was chaired by Dr Adolfo Martinez Palomo, President of the Mexican MOST Committee and attended by several members of the Colegio Nacional, Writers, High level scientists, and Researchers.
At the end of the day, the Director-General visited the National Museum of Anthropology and History.
