UNESCO supports projects for youth development and violence prevention in the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.

The projects are conceived as pilot projects. They all have a strong capacity building component that emphasizes workshops and the systematization of experiences, and keep in mind the goal of future possible replication in similar contexts.

Considering youth both as victims and perpetrators, each national project seeks to prevent involvement in youth gangs through the promotion of social inclusion and development. All project activities are developed on the basis of available institutional capacities and require policy-makers’ involvement, mass media cooperation and youth active participation.
