- In 2005, the United Nations General Assembly held two plenary sessions to evaluate the progress made by the international community in turning the World Programme of Action for Youth [PDF, 82 KB] – adopted by Governments in 1995 - into a reality for the world’s younger generations. The resulting resolution ‘Policies and programmes involving youth’ [PDF, 110 KB] (A/RES/60/2) strongly calls upon ‘[…] the organizations, programmes and specialized agencies of the United Nations system to enhance inter-agency arrangements on youth policies and programmes with a view to improving coordination and enhancing synergies among relevant system activities in this regard.
- The United Nations Youth Programme, located in the Division for Social Policy and Development of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), is the focal point within the United Nations system on matters related to young people.
