UNESCO Beirut launches the Shughel Shabab campaign

On 24-25 November 2017, a group of 18 youth volunteers, members of “Shughel Shabab”, the regional advocacy campaign supported jointly by UNESCO and UNDP to highlight the role of youth in peace building, gathered in Beirut.

In the two day meeting, these youth volunteers who originate from 10 Arab countries (Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Tunisia, Iraq, Oman, Libya, Egypt and Yemen) shared achievements, experiences, lessons learnt during the 1st phase of the advocacy campaign and planned the next steps.

The campaign aims to further mobilize youth and wider segments of the society at national and regional levels to transform the image of Arab youth into a more positive one by highlighting the role of youth as peace builders, promoting intercultural dialogue and social inclusion in the Arab region affected by different types of conflicts.

The in-depth discussions were filmed and will be aired in December in two TV talk show episodes of BBC Arabic programme “Dunyana”.
