Director-General holds the inaugural “UN Water Talks” public lecture in Delft
UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova went to the Netherlands from 24 to 25 April to attend the graduation ceremony at the UNESCO Institute for Water Education (IHE) and to hold the first of a new series of public lectures entitled “UN Water Talks”. These events are organized in collaboration with the City of Delft and the Delftland Water Board.
During the UN Water Talks, the Director-General reflected on the role of the UNESCO in supporting water diplomacy in a world where water is under pressure and demands are rising.
Current and former dignitaries of the United Nations were invited as keynote speakers to reflect on a variety of current issues. The target audience of the “UN Water Talks” was first and foremost young professionals, the next generation of water leaders from developing countries.
During her visit to the Netherlands, the Director-General met with the Mayor of Delft Bas Verkerk, Minister of Education, Culture and Science Marja van Bijsterveldt-Vliegenthart and State Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment Joop Atsma. She also opened a photo exhibition on intangible heritage with the Minister of Education, Culture and Science.
