Director-General’s official visit to Gabon
On 10 and 11 June, UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova was on an official visit to Gabon, where she held bilateral meetings with the President of the country Ali Bongo Ondimba, the Prime Minister Raymond Ndong Sima and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Francophonie Emmanuel Issoze Ngondet. She also met ministers in the fields of competence of the Organization, as well as the United Nations Country Team and the UN Resident Coordinator.
During her official visit to Gabon, the Director-General took part in an interactive roundtable entitled “Action for Female Education” and the international forum entitled “Dialogue for Action Africa”. The forum, organized by the Cecilia Attias Foundation for Women in association with Mrs. Sylvia Bongo Ondimba, First Lady of Gabon, was dedicated to helping women in Africa lead safe, productive, and healthy lives. It brought together a group of speakers and participants consisting of NGO leaders, government officials, academics, business leaders, and medical experts to find innovative solutions to the most pressing problems facing African women.
