Director-General’s official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain

From 17 to 19 May 2017, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, is undertaking an official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, where she is expected to meet with His Majesty King Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and HRH Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, First Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Bahrain Defense Force.

The Director-General is also expected to meet with H.E. Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Prime Minister of Bahrain, H.E. Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Foreign Affairs and H.E. Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Culture.

While in Bahrain, the Director-General will visit Bahrain’s Fort (Qal'at al-Bahrain) inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2005. She will also visit the Arab Regional Center for World Heritage (ARC-WH), a Category 2 Center under the auspices of UNESCO that was established in 2010 as an independent legal entity at the service of Arab States Parties to the World Heritage Convention.

The Director-General will also attend a ceremony, with the Minister of Education H.E. Dr Majid bin Ali Al-Noaimi, honoring UNESCO Associated Schools (ASPnet) in Bahrain.
