French sculptor and painter Hedva Ser named UNESCO Artist for Peace

French artist Hedva Ser will be named a UNESCO Artist for Peace by the Director-General, Irina Bokova, in a ceremony at the Organization’s Headquarters on 18 October (5. 30 p.m.).

By exhibiting sculpture, tapestry and jewellery all over the world, Hedva Ser has placed her art at the service of peace, of which her monumental sculpture, Tree of Peace, has become an emblem.  She is also co-chair of the International Center for Women Artists in Amman (Jordan), which she established in close cooperation with UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Ivonne A-Baki.

Hedva Ser is named UNESCO Artist for Peace “in recognition of her contribution to the defence of tolerance and the meeting of cultures through her art and her dedication to the ideals of the Organization.”

UNESCO Artists for Peace are internationally renowned personalities who use their influence, charisma and prestige to promote UNESCO’s message, among them the musician Manu Dibango (Cameroun), fashion designer Bibi Russell (Bangladesh), musician Gilberto Gil (Brazil), actress and singer Maria de Medeiros (Portugal) and author Frankétienne (Haiti).
