The Director-General and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany celebrate the memory of the reunification of Germany

On 10 October, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, attended the celebration of the inscription of the “Construction and Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Two-Plus-Four-Treaty of 1990” on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register, in the presence of Foreign Minister of Germany Guido Westerwelle.

Organized by the German Federal Foreign Office, in cooperation with the German Commission for UNESCO, this ceremony in Berlin also coincided with the 20th anniversary of the programme.

The event brought together a number of personalities, including the former Prime Minister of the German Democratic Republic Lothar de Maiziere, former Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Germany Hans-Dietrich Genscher and former Foreign Minister of the German Democratic Republic.

During the celebration, the Director-General with the German Foreign Minister and the President of the German National Commission Walter Hirche presented certificates to the representatives of the nine concerned institutions and archives.
