On 7 March, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, will travel to Quebec at the invitation of Université Laval, the first institution in North America to offer higher education in French, where she is to receive an Honorary Doctorate and deliver a speech on the vision of UNESCO on knowledge societies.

During her visit, the Director-General will also meet with the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Minister for La Francophonie, the Honorable Steven Blaney, and the Premier of Quebec, Pauline Marois.

Irina Bokova was appointed Honorary President of the 81st Congress of the Francophone Association for Knowledge (ACFAS), to be held at Université Laval in May. The event will bring together the elite of French speaking researchers and scientists to promote the development and dissemination of science. Her visit to the University is an opportunity to highlight the importance of education, cultural diversity and the creation of knowledge-sharing networks as enablers of stability and sustainability.
