Open Educational Resources (OER) Road Map Meeting

UNESCO, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of Slovenia and the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO, will organize an Open Educational Resources (OER) Road Map Meeting on 30 and 31 March, 2016 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
The objectives of the Roadmap Meeting will be to discuss the Concept Note on strategies for mainstreaming OER and to identify a vision, strategies and partnerships for the way forward.

Open Educational Resources (OER) are materials offered freely and openly for people and institutions to use and adapt for teaching, learning and research. OER learning materials (e.g. textbooks, lecture notes, videos, curricula) on an open license allow for their use, reuse and adaptation in local learning contexts, while allowing authors to have their work acknowledged.

Expanding demand for quality education services and the ongoing rollout of ICT infrastructure have created unique opportunities and challenges for education institutions in an era of tight resources. In this light, OER could have a central role to play in implementing Education 2030, in the framework of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Education), which calls for the international community to “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” with its key pillars of “access, equity and inclusion”.

This meeting will provide an opportunity for dialogue among experts and governmental representatives on the challenges to, and opportunities of, mainstreaming OER in global education systems.
