The Division of Science Policy and Capacity Building of UNESCO HQ is organizing in cooperation with UNESCO's regional office in Dakar and the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of Senegal, a training workshop on tools to design and analyze the impact of of science, engineering, technology and innovation (SETI) policies and policy instruments.
Policy-makers needs to have a better picture of the national, regional and global performance with regards to STI policies and policy instruments in order to estimate the magnitude of potential embodied and disembodied innovation needed to guarantee sustainable development. The lack of precise information, accurate indicators and technical analytical capacity to design innovative STI policies are one of the major challenges for the African region. The UNESCO Global Observatory on STI Policy Instruments (GO-SPIN) and the STI Global Assessment Program (STIGAP) address this challenge. These two recent initiatives will be presented at the workshop to be attended by high level profile experts, government officials, researchers, statisticians and Parliament commission staff from Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, Niger and Senegal.
