Conference organized by the AFUS Friendship Club and given by Georges Kutuikdjian, President of AFUS.
Theatre is par excellence the space of representation. However, is it the representation of historical memory (Oedipus at Colonus), of ethical dilemmas (Antigone), or of conflicts of passions (Phaedra)? Is it to hold up a mirror to society so as to reveal its defects (Tartuffe) or the extent of social transformations (Ruy Blas)? What is the evolution in contemporary theatre that seems sometimes inaccessible? How does other traditions, such as the Japanese Noh compare to Western theatre?
