The ceremony will take place on the anniversary of her Birthday, on 19 April 2013 in UNESCO premises. This Italian neurologist, Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1986, who passed away a few months ago, is remembered not only for her ground-breaking scientific research works, but also for her relentless engagement in favour of youth's education. To this aim she created in 1992 the Levi-Montalcini Association and the Levi-Montalcini Onlus Foundation, the latter being exclusively devoted to the education of African young women.
It will be attended by several UNESCO representatives such as Ms Gretchen Kalonji, Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences, Ms Lalla Ben Barka, Assistant Director-General for for Africa, Ms Alissandra Cummins, Executive Board Chair and Ms Piera Levi Montalcini, Prof. Rita Levi Montalcini’s niece Chair of the Levi-Montalcini Association, and Ms Marina Bentivoglio of the Levi-Montalcini Onlus Foundation.
