Cycles of Change or Te hurihuri o te Ao (New Zealand Maori) - Traditional Calendars for Informing Climate Change Policies
Recognizing the importance of providing a voice for indigenous peoples concerning climate change issues, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the New Zealand National Commission for UNESCO proposes to host a meeting from 4 to 7 June 2013 that will bring together local, indigenous and scientific knowledge holders with a particular interest in seasonal calendars and environmental change. These will include indigenous peoples from New Zealand and Pacific communities, and scientific researchers across multiple disciplines.
Community-based project partners from UNESCO’s Climate Frontlines will also be invited to present and discuss their emerging research on local-level observations of environmental change in their communities.
