Nairobi: UNESCO Point of Interest (POI) Stakeholders Training and Mapping Workshop

The UNESCO regional office for Eastern Africa will conduct a two stakeholders training and mapping exercise in mathare slums Eastland part of Kenya under the UNESCO world map project. The training and mapping exercise is aimed at empowering grass root organizations with Geographic information system and open street map skills which will enable them to represent themselves on a world map.
This event will mainly be based on the training of stakeholders on how to use Java open street editors, How to use mobile based GPS units, How to use open street map tracker mobile phone application and production of thematic maps using arch GIS. This is a pilot project by UNESCO’s Intersectoral platform that aims to advocate, inform and prepare communities in undertaking Disaster Risk Reducation measures to make their countries more resilient in post-conflict and post-disaster (PCPD) situations.
