Addressing literacy and life skills of marginalized youth: The role of community learning centres

© Victorino Manalo, UNESCO

One in ten young people, most of them from Asia and Africa, lack the literacy and life skills they need for everyday life, to earn a living and contribute to community development. Addressing such learning needs is a major challenge for government and civil society. The forum aims at understanding how policies and programmes can promote literacy and life skills education for marginalized youth.
Building upon the work of two previous regional forums on literacy and life skills for vulnerable youth organized by the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (in Bamako and Cairo) in 2011, the forum will focus on the role of community learning centres in reaching out to marginalized youth. It will bring together government and civil society representatives, as well as young people, from Asia and Africa.
