Symposium on Public Policies and Legislation in Communication: Latin-American Experiences

The José Martí International Institute of Journalism, on the occasion of its 30th anniversary, will hold a Symposium on Public Policies and Legislations in the area of communication in Latin-America. The event, which will be held from 14 to 18 of October, is organized with the Support of UNESCO and the Cuban Journalists Union.
In accordance with the political changes occurring in Latin America over the past decade, the struggle for the democratization of communication has included the process of updating corresponding national policies and legal regulations that govern the exercise of this right. Concepts such as information transparency of public institutions, pluralism, diversity and development of public media have been making their way in several countries in the region.

For Cuba, it is interesting and useful to see first-hand the development of these processes and therefore invites personalities from academia and the professional communication field as consultants and activists in these processes to participate in this opportunity to exchange experience, reflection, debate that will help to form a holistic view of such a significant socio-political phenomenon at a time when communication and access to it acquires, as never before, a strategic transcendental dimension for the fate of humanity.

The event is sponsored by the Cuban Journalists Union (UPEC) and the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
