Southeast Asian Biosphere Reserve Network (SeaBRnet) seventh meeting

This year, the 7th SeaBRnet meeting will be organized in Puerto Princesa, Palawan Biosphere Reserve, Philippines, from 23 to 27 October 2013, in collaboration with UNESCO National Commission for the Philippines (UNACOM). This time, the meeting will focus on partnerships and green economy in Biosphere Reserves (BRs). During this meeting, successful partnership experiences and a variety of examples of green economy activities in BRs will be shared and discussed, in order to move forward, from green economy to green society in BRs.
Green Economy is defined as one that results in improved human well-being and social equity, while significantly reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. In BRs it could mean strengthening organic agriculture, running local community based tour programme and ecotourism, generating renewable energy, etc.

In 2013, the strategic meeting of Asia-Pacific Biosphere Reserves Networks, “Role of Biosphere Reserves in Shaping the Future We Want for All”, was held in Hanoi, in the Cat Ba Biosphere Reserve, Viet Nam, on 22-25 April in the context of the Millennium Development Goal (MDGs) and Post 2015 Development Agenda. The meeting focused on:
1) Assessment, progress and accomplishment of the Madrid Action Plan (MAP) in Asia-Pacific BRs as well as identify the follow up for post MAP actions
2) Assessment on how Asia-Pacific BRs have been serving for MDGs and discussion the actions for post 2015 development agenda
3) Future activities of Asia-Pacific BRs to enhance the cooperation between BRs, and MAB national committees
4) Linkage between BRs and the Sustainability Science initiative.
