Assessment of the Social inclusiveness of public policies with regards to young persons with disabilities in Lebanon: Validation workshop

UNESCO Beirut, in cooperation with the National Commission for UNESCO and the National Council on Disability, organize a one-day workshop to share the key findings of the assessment of public policies in Lebanon with regards to young persons with disabilities, and to propose ways forward to follow-up the recommendations formulated in this assessment.
UNESCO’s programme on “Assessment of the Level of Inclusiveness of Public Policies” aims at strengthening regional and national capacity to assess, compare and reform national policy and regulatory frameworks in view of increasing their inclusiveness and social sustainability.
This intervention is not concerned with measuring the impact of the policies on the ground after these are transposed into government programmes and actions. Its focus is on assessing the policy and regulatory frameworks per se, allowing for comparative analysis of the results, and making social inclusion an overarching goal and a core component of all government policy and planning processes.
In Lebanon, the assessment was done from February to August 2013 with an emphasis on the rights of young persons with disabilities. The process not only produced two studies (An assessment report of social inclusion indicators + A policy analysis of social inclusion of young persons with disabilities), but also promoted communication for a better coordination among national stakeholders through a national committee for the project.
