Scientific conference and commemorative event on the underwater cultural heritage of the First World War

The Scientific Conference on Underwater Cultural Heritage from the First World War, organized by the Government of Flanders (Belgium) and UNESCO, will take place in Bruges on 26 and 27 June 2014. The Commemoration Event is planned for 28 June 2014.
The Bruges Conference and Commemoration Event will focus on the extensive underwater cultural heritage from the period 1914-1918 in light of its upcoming protection under the provisions of the 2001 UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage. These international events will bring together high-level politicians and diplomats, as well as the world’s leading scientific experts to advocate peace through the respectful preservation of WWI heritage.
