This Ethics Teacher Training Course will be organized in Dubrovnik, Croatia, from 30 June to 4 July 2014. It is the result of a collaborative effort involving UNESCO, the Inter University Center in Dubrovnik (IUC), the School of Medicine of the University of Zagreb, and the Croatian National Commission for UNESCO. The Course offers a unique opportunity for participants from Croatia and from other countries in the region to enhance their teaching capacities in ethics. Deadline for registration: 14 April 2014.
Ethics Teachers’ Training Courses are designed to support and promote quality ethics education around the world by building professional capacities of ethics teachers.
Ethics Teacher Training Course is conducted by a team of international experts with extensive experience in ethics education. Experts from the University of Zagreb will also take part in the course.
The Course is based on a five-day training module developed by UNESCO in collaboration with the global experts in ethics education. The module contains the following key components:
1. Global Perspective on Ethics Teaching: trends, challenges and opportunities
2. The UNESCO Core Curriculum as a tool for promoting quality ethics education
3. Ethics Teaching in Action: what and how to teach (a model lesson)
4. Workshop: Sharing experiences in ethics teaching from the local perspective
5. Classroom communication: pedagogy and psychology of ethics teaching
6. Simulated teaching presentations by participants followed by feedback from the Course instructors
A successful candidate for the Course will have a Master’s or higher degree (in areas such as law, medicine, philosophy, ethics, or social sciences), experience or future plans of teaching ethics, and a good command of English language.
Persons who want to register should submit a registration form to Mr Irakli Khodeli at the Bioethics Section of UNESCO (email@example.com), as early as possible, and before the 14 April deadline. Applicants should also include a letter of intent (600 words) explaining why they wish to participate in the course and how they expect to benefit from it.
While the participation in the course is free, the participants are expected to pay a 40 Euro participation fee to IUC, and to cover their room and board expenses for the duration of the training. A limited number of scholarships is available for participants from Croatia, and from certain countries from Eastern and Central Europe and the Russian Federation.
