YouthMobile Experts meeting

CC-by AFS-USA International Programs

The UNESCO YouthMobile Initiative aims to directly engage young people, to acquire the high-level skills and confidence to develop, promote, and sell locally relevant mobile apps that solve local issues of sustainable development and provide employment.
The primary stakeholders are:
1. Youth – from 18 – 27 years old
2. Secondary school students - from 13 – 18 years old

UNESCO has conducted a global search for the best, existing mobile applications training initiatives with openly-licensed training materials, and calls for a meeting of a selected group of experts at UNESCO headquarters (Paris, France) on 19-20 March 2014.

The objectives of the meeting are to:
1. Facilitate the sharing of best-practices between the training providers; and
2. Further select the best providers to enter into partnerships for up-scaling and integration into teaching and learning environments.

UNESCO seeks to extensively promote very high-quality, multi-lingual, comprehensive training materials for developing mobile apps. Openly-licensed, the training materials identified will allow for adaptations including translation, localization, and innovations. The YouthMobile meeting serves as a UNESCO contribution to the 2014 celebrations for Open Education Week.

UNESCO will be paying particular attention to ensuring young women have equal access to the YouthMobile training opportunities. Within the framework of the global priority for Gender Equality, this YouthMobile meeting is a part of the celebrations for the 2014 International Women’s Day.
