Celebration of World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development in Costa Rica.
In 2001, UNESCO adopted the Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity and in December 2002, the UN General Assembly declared May 21 to be the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
This year’s World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development will be celebrated with a special event. The celebration will take place in Alajuelita, where the UNESCO in cooperation with the Municipality of Alajuelita will organize the presentation of the project “Sos Alajuelita” with the objective to reduce serious youth violence. The agenda also includes the opening speech by Mrs. Pilar Álvarez-Laso, Director of UNESCO San José, a speech by Mrs. Fresia Camacho, Culture Direction of the Minister of Culture and Youth and a speech by Víctor Hugo Echavarría, the Mayor of Alajuelita.
