Celebrating the World Day for Cultural Diversity in South Sudan
On the 21st of May 2015, South Sudan will celebrate its rich cultural diversity together with its youth. UNESCO Juba in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and the UNESCO Club will develop interactive games based on UNESCO’s Education Activities publication on Dialogue of Cultures and Civilizations and the Traveling Exhibition project.
Objects and audio recordings that form part of the collection will become the basis of stories and games allowing children to engage in an interactive dialogue.
Youth will explore the diverse cultures of their country through folktales, musical instruments, hunting spears, cooking pots, symbols, traditional practices and songs, and celebrate together their shared heritage. The activities will allow the youth to translate respect for cultural diversity and dialogue among cultures into more concrete terms and practices.
In collaboration with Radio Miraya, the UN radio with the widest broadcasting reach, the activity will be featured in a radio programme dedicated to the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development with a panel of cultural practitioners and representatives from the Ministry of Culture. The debate will focus on the relevance of the Day’s messages for South Sudan and their importance in the country’s peace and nation building process.
