Open Access (OA) to Scientific Information in Libya

A Workshop on Open Access to scientific information and Research for Libya will take place in Amman, Jordan, from Tuesday 17 to Friday 20 May 2016.
The inception meeting and planning workshop is being organized within the framework of “National ICT Project for Capacity Building in Higher Education of Libya”.

The overarching aim of the Open Access project is to initiate actions toward establishing a successful national Open Access policy for Libya and in its higher education institutions through the collaborative efforts of the Government of Libya and UNESCO.

The project will create necessary conditions to create an advocacy framework and national system that will ensure that all publicly funded research in Libya becomes freely and openly available and that the Libyan academia are not left behind in the global OA movement. The project will ensure strengthening research and innovation processes in the country and it will also ensure that Libya is enlisted highly on global systems, such as GII, which ranks innovation and research strength of countries. The proposed project will develop tools to enhance capacity and will formulate a framework to monitor progress and establish benchmarks.
