SIDS, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction

The objective of the discussion is to find ways on how to strengthen the potential of natural heritage sites, and protected areas in general, to ensure sites’ conservation in the face of natural hazards. Solutions on how to contribute to Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Adaptation measures would come out from the fruitful discussion between key experts, including UNESCO representative and practitioners from SIDS.

Through their commitment to being learning sites for sustainable development with unique ecosystems around the world, internationally designated sites, such as UNESCO designated sites, offer opportunities to understand the way changing environments impact communities. They play a major role in telling the story of past and active natural processes and the way they affect people.
