Eighth World Water Forum

The World Water Forum is the largest international event dedicated to water, bringing together NGOs, private sector, governments and international organizations. It is organized by the respective host country of the Forum and the World Water Council. Since the first World Water Forum, the International Hydrological Program (IHP) of UNESCO has been one of its key players.

IHP, the intergovernmental platform for water within the UN system, is strongly engaged in the organization of the Forum, aiming to raise awareness among decision-makers and the public at large on water issues and to generate action, thus improving access to water supply and sanitation and report on progress towards meeting the Sustainable Development Goals. IHP is involved in over 30 sessions and events.

Ms Audrey Azoulay,Director-General of UNESCO, will take part in the official Opening ceremony on 19 March.

The Director-General will also attend the Special session launching the 2018 edition of the UN World Water Development Report (WWDR) of the UNESCO World Water Assessment Programme (WWAP), entitled “Nature-based solutions for Water”.

UNESCO-IHP is also the co-organizer of the special session on "World Water Day 2018: Nature for Water" on 22 March 2018. The UN celebrate the 25th anniversary the creation of the World Water Day.
