Irene Zundel, a Mexican plastic artist, will be presenting her art exposition "Beyond Reality" in relation to the ethical reflection on science and technology. The exhibition will take place from 18 to 25 January 2019, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm (from Monday to Friday), at UNESCO Headquarters (Hall Segur) in Paris.

UNESCO’s initiative to further discuss and develop the ethics of science and technology, with a specific emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, continues to broaden. Through the work of Irene Zundel in “Beyond Reality”, she brings forward a new perspective to art and technology, and interprets UNESCO’s priority to transform the ethical challenges derived from science, technology and Artificial Intelligence into a useful tool for sustainable development from an artistic perspective.

The plastic artist uses color, movement and technology to create visual effects that allow her viewers to observe living artwork and to look inside themselves. Indeed “Beyond Reality” seeks to integrate audiences into the artwork itself. For Irene Zundel, the experience will depend on the viewer’s contemplation, interpretation, and perception. Through individual interpretations, the artist exhibits her art as a means to demonstrate how science and technology influences human conscience and intelligence. Indeed, her interest is to encourage audiences to question what lies “beyond the reality” – a similar thought process in regards to Artificial Intelligence nowadays.

A debate on Ethics of New Technologies and Artificial Intelligence "Tech Futures: Hope or Fear?" is organized in parallel with the art exhibition on 22 January 2019 (Room II, 5 pm). The opening ceremony of the exhibition will be held on 22 January 2019 at 6.30 p.m. at UNESCO Headquarters (Hall Ségur). The artist will be present.

The exhibition is open to the public.
