National Workshop on “Ethics of Research Involving Human Subjects and Biosamples”

UNESCO and the Lebanese National Consultative Committee on Ethics (LNCCE) are organizing a national workshop on "Ethics of Research involving Human Subjects and biosamples" in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) at the premises of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK), Lebanon, from 14 to 16 February 2019.

The workshop aims to enhance the capacity in ensuring the highest ethics standard among members of the Research Ethics Committees (REC) at universities and hospitals in Lebanon.

In 2016, a new Decree was adopted by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health regarding the research ethics related to the human subject. This Decree reported the general principles governing the creation, role, and functioning of local Research Ethics Committees (REC) in the Universities and academic and teaching hospitals in Lebanon.

UNESCO supports the role of national bioethics committees as an effective platform to promote principles in the UNESCO Declarations– the Universal Declaration on the Human Genome and Human Rights (1997), the International Declaration on Human Genetic Data (2003) and the Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights (2005).
