Launch of the UNESCO Open Educational Resources (OER) Platform and UNESCO - Commonwealth of Learning OER Policy Guidelines

The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, will launch the UNESCO Open Educational Resources (OER) Platform during the 36th Session of the UNESCO General Conference at UNESCO Headquarters, on Tuesday 1 November, 2011. The launch will take place in the presence of the Honourable Stanley Mutumba Simataa, Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology of Namibia. The same day, UNESCO Director General together with Sir John Daniel, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) will also launch the UNESCO – Commonwealth of Learning OER policy Guidelines.
Open Educational Resources are any type of educational materials available in the public domain or released with an open-license that allows a user to freely copy, use, adapt, and re-share the material.
The UNESCO Open Education Resources Platform will offer selected UNESCO publications as fully-licensed OERs allowing its global communities of practice including teachers, learners, and education professionals to freely copy, use, adapt, and share the UNESCO materials.
